Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010Chef Paul is a famous 5-star chef, but the secret to his unique, ever-changing menu is that he gets his ingredients from the previous night’s garbage.

I definitely would like to reshoot the ending, and maybe the kitchen scene if I have time.
Marianne suggested that I add a filter to hide the light change (yellow tint). And also make my paper cutouts high-class, hoity-toity people who are in love with the idea of eating at a 5-star restaurant but don’t know the first thing about appreciating food! Also some background, like a newspaper with Paul on it, as a transition to the end scene would be nice.
I was also thinking of starting with the restaurant scene, and having a customer ask Paul what his secret is. What makes him so unique compared to all the other Parisian chefs? And then cut to the rest of the short.

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010Here’s a video of my flipbook. Apologies for the dim video– I used a light table thinking it was the documentation station in its entirety.

In one of my earlier versions, I realized I had too much going on. I had the octopus pop-up from the bottom, and several fish come from both sides spewing bubbles, and then clouds, sun, and a rainbow coming from above. It was really hard for the eye to focus. So I started over and drew just the octopus head popping up, and then went back to add arms and a fish.
