For our Physical Computing class, we were asked to walk around our neighborhoods and observe sensors. This way we see first-hand how multi-faceted they are! I walked from my neighborhood (Hell’s Kitchen) to Times Square.
Button Sensors:
Below is a boombox, attached to a Halal cart. Push a button, music plays.
A tourist takes a photo by pressing a button on his camera.
Motion Sensors
Stand in front of the door and the camera will tell it to open
.
Laser (?) Sensor
People swipe a badge, the gates part to let them through.
Steal an article of clothing and these guys will let the whole store know by way of an annoying alarm.
Everything Sensor
At the Nintendo Store, a man was playing with a Wii (surprise, surprise). The controller has buttons and a motion sensor, and the mat on the ground senses pressure.
